10 Sep Charlie Takes a 10,000ft Leap for Dementia Charities
We couldn’t be prouder of our team member Charlie Quiney, who recently took fundraising to new heights by completing her first-ever skydive in support of two charities very close to our hearts.
Charlie, who works as both a Care Assistant and Housekeeper here at The Mill House, jumped from an incredible 10,000 feet above Swansea to raise money for Dementia UK and Alzheimer’s Society.
And she did it in honour of our residents and everyone whose lives are affected by dementia.
Taking the plunge for two causes close to our hearts
Charlie has been part of The Mill House team for around six years and decided to take on the challenge as a way of supporting two organisations whose work means a great deal to us.
Despite being understandably nervous as the moment approached, she says the experience on 24 July turned out to be one she’ll never forget.
“I was so nervous getting onto the plane,” said Charlie. “We were all huddled together and, as we started scooting towards the door ready to jump, I remember thinking, ‘Is this actually happening?’ But the sensation was amazing. It was genuinely one of the best experiences of my life.
“I wanted to do it for Dementia UK and Alzheimer’s Society in honour of all the residents at The Mill House and everyone affected by dementia, so knowing we were raising money for two causes that mean so much to us made it even more special.”
Charlie raised £255 for Alzheimer’s Society, while a further £340 was raised for Dementia UK.
Getting behind Charlie – from the ground!
Of course, while Charlie was brave enough to jump out of the plane, the rest of us were very happy to support her with our feet firmly on the ground!
Ahead of the skydive, we held a charity car wash here at The Mill House, raising £55 towards Charlie’s fundraising. The home added a further £100 donation to Dementia UK.
Altogether, £595 was raised for the two charities – a fantastic achievement and one that residents, families and colleagues were delighted to get behind.

“We’re incredibly proud of Charlie for taking on such a huge challenge and raising money for two charities that are very close to our hearts at The Mill House.
“Supporting people living with dementia and their families is at the centre of what we do, so it was lovely to see the whole home get behind Charlie, including through our charity car wash. It takes a lot of courage to jump out of a plane at 10,000 feet – I’m not sure many of us would have been brave enough to join her!”
